Build your calendar in three layers

Begin with the statewide dates in the table below. Next add regional holidays for your workplace’s municipal area. Finally, check dates with limited application, such as Easter Tuesday and the Cup holidays. This order prevents a local or public-service holiday being counted as a day off for every Tasmanian. It is especially useful for households where one person works in Hobart and another works in a northern council area.

The complete TAS 2027 calendar keeps statewide and regional entries separate. The holiday finder is useful for a quick date, but read the coverage notes before turning that date into a booking or leave request.

The regional dates that change your plan

Royal Hobart Regatta falls on Monday 8 February 2027. Recreation Day falls on Monday 1 November in the parts of Tasmania that do not observe the Regatta holiday. They are different regional holiday arrangements, so do not add both to a statewide leave calendar. Published exclusions also matter: a broad description such as “southern Tasmania” does not replace the official municipal coverage.

Show holidays create another layer of local variation. Royal Launceston Show is Thursday 7 October and Royal Hobart Show is Thursday 21 October 2027. Check the Launceston Show guide and Hobart Show guide for the areas covered. Attending a show in another region does not establish that its public holiday applies to your workplace.

Easter and ANZAC Day need different treatment

Good Friday is 26 March and Easter Monday is 29 March 2027. Together with a normal Saturday–Sunday weekend, they make a four-day break. Easter Tuesday is 30 March, but generally applies to the Tasmanian Public Service; it should not be assumed to extend everyone’s Easter break to five days. If your employer observes it, count it separately.

ANZAC Day falls on Sunday 25 April 2027. The shared Tasmanian calendar does not list Monday 26 April as an additional statewide holiday. This is a key difference when comparing Tasmania with ACT or NT dates. Use the Tasmanian calendar rather than copying a national or interstate leave-planning example.

Australia Day and Christmas leave opportunities

Australia Day is Tuesday 26 January. A standard Monday-to-Friday worker with Monday 25 January approved as leave could have four consecutive days away, from Saturday 23 to Tuesday 26 January. The public holiday itself is one day; the longer break combines a weekend, approved leave and the holiday.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 December. The calendar also includes Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December. With approved leave on 29–31 December, a standard weekend roster can produce nine consecutive days away from Saturday 25 December to Sunday 2 January 2028. Check the next year’s calendar separately if extending the break further.

Plan a trip around the calendar, then check the destination

A Hobart long weekend, a northern show holiday and a statewide Easter break can create different travel patterns. Decide which holiday applies to you before comparing accommodation or transport. If your trip crosses between regions, check destination opening hours as well: your day off does not mean shops, attractions and services at your destination follow the same schedule.

For a family trip, compare the relevant school calendar independently. A public holiday, a school holiday and a student-free day are different things. Give each its own line in your plan and check the actual school’s arrangements before committing to travel.

Which future dates can you rely on?

The shared Holiday Network dataset marks Tasmania’s 2027 entries as officially confirmed. The year pages preserve those status labels; later projected years are clearly identified. A projected recurring date can help sketch a future plan, but should be checked again when the official year-specific calendar is published.

Before finalising leave, check the date, municipal coverage, normal work roster and approval together. For employment-specific questions, use your employer’s arrangements and the appropriate official guidance. This guide explains the calendar and planning examples; it does not determine an individual employee’s entitlement.

Common questions

Is Easter Tuesday a public holiday for everyone in Tasmania?

No. Easter Tuesday generally applies to the Tasmanian Public Service. Other workers should confirm their own arrangements rather than assuming a five-day Easter break.

Do Hobart and Launceston have the same public holidays?

They share statewide dates but have different regional holidays. Royal Hobart Regatta, Recreation Day and show holidays need a coverage check.

Is Monday 26 April a statewide TAS public holiday in 2027?

The shared Tasmanian 2027 calendar lists ANZAC Day on Sunday 25 April and does not list Monday 26 April as an additional statewide holiday.
